"Lakeshore Drive-In" (LSDI) is a drive-in concert and events series at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago, IL. As of 2020, live entertainment has experienced a large decline due to COVID-19. With that in mind, LSDI was created to help revive an industry in downturn by providing gigs for industry professionals and a space for Chicagoans to enjoy live entertainment. All while maintaining the new social distancing norms.

In collaboration with fellow designer, Armani Barron, we created the overall branding and art direction for Lakeshore Drive-In and provided design assets for each event.

Role

As a Co-Art Director, I was responsible for creating the main teaser admat which would essentially influence the art direction for all the designs moving forward. I was also responsible for providing designs for the social media rollout for some of the events. I also created animated social media posts for both the announce of LSDI and each subsequent event.

Direction

Due to the unique nature of this Drive-In series, we approached the overall aesthetic with a surreal, retro-futuristic look. We we’re heavily inspired by Baugasm and its experimental nature. With that in mind, each asset is filled unique abstract shapes, blobs, and buildings. All of it laid out in like a collage giving the overall aesthetic a dream-like quality. To top it off, we used retro style fonts as a nod to Drive-Ins of the past.
